Kogan.com drops off list of top 1000 Aussie retailers

Business analysts at IBISWorld have compiled a list of Australia’s 1000 most successful companies in 2016.

Companies on the Top 1000 list account for $1.98 trillion in revenue, a 1.9 per cent increase over total revenue generated by companies on the 2015 list.

However, net profit after tax (NPAT) declined significantly among companies on the list this year.

IBISWorld analysts attribute this partly to poor performances among some of the top 10 companies, which account for almost 20 per cent of all revenue on the list.

Several major retailers feature on the list, with Wesfarmers and Woolworths taking the top two spots and JB Hi-Fi, 7-Eleven, Harvey Norman, Super Retail Group and Cotton On appearing further down.

Kogan.com, the only pureplay online retailer to have made the 2015 list, dropped off this year’s list of Australia’s 1000 most successful companies.

Speaking to Internet Retailing, an IBISWorld analyst explained that the drop-off is not related to Kogan.com’s financial performance over the current year.

“IBISWorld previously had estimates for the company based on guidance provided by Kogan. However, since the company has listed, more information has become available.

“IBISWorld has adjusted revenue for 2015-16 based on the latest available information,” the spokesperson said.
