Just Wines grows portfolio with two new acquisitions

Online liquor retailer Just Wines has added two new acquisitions — Brew Cartel and Brewquets — to its growing online liquor portfolio.

Last year, the company bought alcohol-free drinks company, Sans Drinks, after it called in the administrators. Meanwhile in April, Just Wines also extended the life of recently collapsed craft spirit subscription service Liquor Loot.

Established in 2012, Just Wines is an e-commerce platform that sells liquor from local and international brewers, distilled spirits, and wineries.

Founder Nitesh Bhatia says the move is driven by the business’s ambition to have a greater share of the off-premise liquor market in the country.

“We’ve seen significant growth within the business and have built out further capability through the acquisition of Sans Drinks and Liquor Loot,” said Bhatia.

“This most recent acquisition means the group covers all main liquor categories in Australia, further strengthening our competitive position.

Launched in 2009, Beer Cartel is a craft beer retailer known for its Beer Advent Calendar. Brewquets began in 2016 and is known for its online alcohol gifting business. The purchase price of the two businesses was not disclosed.

“We recognise Beer Cartel’s success within the online craft beer space over the past 15 years,” continued Bhatia.

“For Brewquets, we see significant synergies across the entire group portfolio. We now have beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks that we can offer as gifts to consumers and businesses alike.”

The Just Wines founder said he expects to maintain the key strengths of both Beer Cartel and Brewquets.

“We don’t want to revolutionise these two highly successful businesses. We’ll simply be looking at how we can integrate our key capabilities into these great organisations to grow the customer base for each,” he concluded.
