Gumtree hacked, customer data exposed
Online classifieds site, Gumtree, emailed customers last week to tell them the site was hacked over the Anzac Day long weekend.
The eBay-owned site told users their email addresses had been accessed, however email passwords and payment details were not compromised in the attack.
“Attackers accessed your email address,” the email reads. “Contact names and phone numbers, which were available publicly on the site were also accessed.
“We resolved the isolated attack within minutes of discovering it and since we’ve taken extra steps to protect your information.”
The company referred the matter to the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Privacy Commissioner.
