First chapter begins for Aussie book subscription service

Jumping on the subscription shopping trend, Australian husband and wife team, Chris and Mel Tantchev, have launched Bookabuy, a personalised book subscription service.

Launched in mid-July 2015, Bookabuy offers three, six or 12 month subscriptions from $21 to $40 per month, including delivery Australia-wide, as well as the option of a one-off mystery book for $25, including delivery.

To sign up subscribers select their plan, pick a category and provide information about the reader. A new book will be delivered once a month, hand-picked by Mel, gift wrapped and accompanied by a personalised message.

“Choosing the right book can be tricky. It’s easy to buy someone a book you’ve read and loved, but finding something ‘just for them’ is much harder,” she said.

“What we offer is something so much more than a book store voucher. Each customers’ book subscription is uniquely tailored to suit their individual tastes. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a special gift, or even for someone wanting to get back into reading who isn’t quite sure where to start.”

Bookabuy came about after Chris frustratedly searched for the perfect book for their first wedding anniversary – traditionally a paper gift.

“Mel’s an avid reader so I wanted to find her something really special for our anniversary. Not having the time to visit bookshop after bookshop, I searched for an online service which could help me choose the right book – but there wasn’t anything available in Australia,” he said.

“There’s a real trend toward subscription shopping services at the moment. So after we realised there weren’t any personalised book subscription services available locally, we decided to launch Bookabuy.”
