David Jones searches for new digital boss

Under the ownership of South Africa’s Woolworths Holdings, David Jones is searching for a new executive to lead the department store’s digital efforts.

A new executive role, group executive – digital has been created to lead the expansion of the company’s digital strategy and will report to DJs CEO, John Dixon.

The company said the search  for the ideal candidate is “well advanced.”

The announcement was made as part of an executive reshuffle, which included the departure of DJs veteran Donna Player, who has been replaced by David Collins as group executive – merchandise. Collins joins the department store Woolworths South Africa, where he worked across womenswear, menswear, kids, home and accessories roles.

Tasked with expanding David Jones’ food business, Pieter de Wet, currently GM – food has been appointed to the newly created role of group executive – food, reporting to John Dixon.

“Our business is undergoing a significant transformation and the changes announced today will deliver a world class leadership team,” said Dixon.

“The creation of two new executive roles, combined with the introduction of new skills and experience, reflects key areas of strategic focus and will extend our capabilities during this exciting phase of the business’ development.”

David Robinson, group executive – marketing, financial services and customer insights will also be leaving the business. David Thomas, COO, will manage the marketing function during the interim period.

“I would like to thank both David and Donna for their strong contribution to the business over the years and wish them all the best in their future endeavours,” Dixon said.
