Coles sees strong growth across e-commerce sales

E-commerce sales surged in Coles’ latest quarter as the company reported third-quarter revenue up 3.7 per cent, from $9.065 billion to $9.4 billion.

Online sales increased by 25.7 per cent to $1.1 billion during this period with an 11.3 per cent increase in penetration.

E-commerce sales revenue for liquor was recorded at $52 million, an 18.2 per cent increase from the same period last year, with a penetration of 6.5 per cent.

Strong e-commerce sales growth was seen, underpinned by website and app functionality, expanded reach, back-to-school offers and the app mega sale event, the company said in a stock exchange filing.

A significant increase in online customers was recorded, specifically for orders fulfilled via customer fulfilment centres (CFCs), with 1.5 million orders fulfilled.

The CFC range was also expanded with over 27,000 stock keeping units, including products across deli, global and seasonal categories.

Perfect order rates were more than double the national home delivery rate through an increase in next-day deliveries across NSW and Victoria.
