Catch moves into phone plans

Catch Group will move into services under a partnership with Optus that will see the e-commerce giant launch a mobile phone service.

The move will place Catch in even more direct competition with Kogan.com, which under founder Ruslan Kogan has been expanding into services such as phone plans for some time.

Called Catch Connect, the phone service will offer pre-paid 30 and 90-day phone plans on the Optus mobile network and will see Catch leverage its databases to market the service.

“Our customers prioritise choice and value, so when it came to designing Catch Connect, we wanted to create a unique and differentiated offering that delivers additional value to users,” Catch Group CEO Nati Harpaz said.

Catch will offer shopping vouchers for users on certain plans that can be redeemed for retail purchases on its platform through a special promotion that will be available until 9 March.

Prices range from $15 to $89 and all plans come with unlimited talk and text to standard Australian numbers with no lock in contracts.

30-day plan options include $15 for 2GB of data, $25 for 5GB and 35 for 15GB, while 90-day plans range from $39 for 6GB, $69 for 15GB and $89 for 45GB.

There are also two 30-day data only plans, including $30 for $10GB of data and $40 for $30GB.

“I’m proud to be a part of this strong Catch Connect partnership, which promotes competition and choice in the Australian market. Both Catch Group and Optus are known for using innovation and technology to improve customer experience, and this is clearly reflected in this new mobile service,” Optus wholesale and satellite managing director Stuart Bird said.
