Australia Post unveils electric delivery fleet
Australia Post is rolling out 500 new electric delivery vehicles, with its new three-wheeled Rapide 3, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The EVs can carry up to 150 small parcels, a 400 per cent increase in capacity as compared to Australia Post’s current Honda bikes.
The new vehicles offer improved safety, can better navigate challenging terrain, can reach speeds of 80kmph, and cover up to 180km on a single charge.
“This rollout is part of a broader transformation as we build the Australia Post of the future, one that is safer, more sustainable and ready to meet the changing needs of our customers,” said Australia Post CEO and MD Paul Graham.
“We’ve been investing in electric delivery vehicles for over a decade, and we’re proud to operate Australia’s largest electric delivery vehicle fleet.
“By continuing to invest in an electric fleet, new technology and smarter infrastructure, we’re laying the foundations for a delivery network that can support our communities for decades to come,” said Graham.
The addition of the Rapide 3 will help Australia Post achieve its Net Zero target by 2050 and is supported by the installation of charging infrastructure at nearly 40 sites across Australia.
All 500 Rapide 3 vehicles will be deployed to support the organisation during the peak holiday period, with Posties already receiving training.
