Auspost prepared for biggest delivery day yet

Australia Post is set for its biggest delivery day yet, with more than 3 million parcels to be delivered after the biggest sales events of the year.

By last Friday, the postal service had already delivered more than 3 million parcels and the company was expecting to set a new delivery record yesterday with more than 3.1 million parcels.

“We’re hiring 5000 extra people to help deliver for our customers across the country, have chartered 18 freighter flights, and will have 3000 extra vehicles on the road,” said Rod Barnes, executive GM deliveries at Australia Post.

“Temporary regulatory relief has enabled the upskilling of 2700 posties including 2000 now delivering in vans, so we are ready to get a record number of parcels to their destinations and spread Christmas cheer for Australians everywhere.”

During the sales period, the number of Australians shopping online increased more than 45 per cent year-on-year.

Australia Post has delivered more than 40 million parcels, at an average of more than 2 million a day this month. Categories, such as food and liquor, home and garden, variety store purchases, have been dominating with 72 per cent growth year-on-year.
