Amazon launches same-day delivery in Geelong
Amazon Australia has expanded its delivery services in Geelong, introducing free same-day delivery for Prime members on orders over $49.
The service applies to more than 500,000 eligible products across categories such as electronics, household items, clothing, and toys.
Under the new system, orders placed by midday are scheduled for delivery before 10 pm on the same day, allowing local consumers to receive morning orders on the same evening.
Eligible items are identified on the company’s platform by the ‘Prime Free Same-Day’ badge or a ‘Today by 10pm’ marker.
Geelong joins Sydney, Perth, and Canberra as the locations where Amazon offers this same-day delivery option.
According to Amazon Australia country manager Matt Benham, the expansion is a response to rising consumer demand for faster delivery options.
Local businesses utilising the Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) program will also have their products included in the same-day delivery selection for regional customers.
For sellers participating in the FBA program, Amazon manages all customer support, including processing refunds and returns.
The logistical expansion is part of the company’s broader infrastructure investment.
Between 2024 and 2027, Amazon Australia is investing $1.6 billion to open five operational sites across the country, which is projected to add 4500 roles to its workforce once fully operational. This follows the creation of 1500 permanent operational roles last year.
The company’s current Australian network consists of eight fulfilment centres and 12 logistics sites.
Earlier this week, Amazon revealed Australian Prime Day dates, with seven days of member deals confirmed.
