12 new tenants sign up to major CBD shopping centre

CBRE and St. Collins Lane have this month closed deals for 12 new tenants to be introduced to St. Collins Lane as part of the wider repositioning strategy for the shopping centre in Collins Street, Melbourne.

Located at 260 Collins Street, Melbourne, St. Collins Lane is a prime 9,000 square metre, four-level shopping centre running between Collins Street and Little Collins Street, in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. The centre is proud to be Collins Street’s premium shopping destination, connecting the two retail thoroughfares of the CBD/Collins Street and the retail spine, forming the epicentre of CBD retail in Melbourne.

The centre is a key part and integral feature of the famed Collins Street Retail offer and sits between international luxury retailers, contemporary fashion and leading global corporate institutions.

Despite the privileged location, the 380-room international hotel, 60+ stores and prominent retail shop fronts, the centre has struggled; a trend that St. Collins Lane and CBRE have bucked with the announcement of a series of new retailers who will be calling the centre home.

St. Collins Lane appointed CBRE to develop a reinvigorated leasing strategy for the remaining vacancies at the site with the aim of continuing to strengthen the centre’s identity and providing shoppers an enticing reason to shop within the centre.

The strategy includes a new audio-visual and technology precinct on the first floor, international food hall on the second floor and destination retail on the ground level. Anchoring the new audio-visual technology precinct on the first-floor is a flagship 222 square metre tenancy by renowned German camera maker, Leica.

The food hall will welcome a number of international cuisines including Shujinko, Poke Work Shop, Sushi Boto and Meat the Challenge who will open alongside Neil Perry’s Burger Project.

Award winning British luxury watch company, Bremont, and boutique retailer Claudie Pierlot join luxury international brands such as Tag Heuer, Birkenstock, Coach and Zadig & Voltaire on the ground-floor with Bremont opening their doors in 2018 and Claudie Pierlot due to open early 2019.

All of these initiatives have sought to complement the surrounding retail and lifestyle amenity, but also highlight St. Collins Lane’s point of difference. This is now a centre that has truly defined its purpose and found its place on Collins Street.

CBRE’s head of retail leasing, Zelman Ainsworth said “We’re maneuvering the retail mix to adapt to the surrounding precincts and shopping centres, creating an identity for the centre and a reason to visit“.

“The centre is perfectly located in the retail core of the CBD with strong anchor retailers. The goal is to really understand customers’ needs and habits and build a retail mix that gives the CBD customer what they what”.

The centre is currently being marketed with limited space remaining.
